The year after Edith was born, I pretty much only wore yoga pants and old t-shirts that I used to sleep in. This was partly because nothing really fit me (I gained 80! lbs when I was pregnant with Edith) and because I didn’t feel like myself. I was always being spit-up on, touched with little messy hands, and colored on. It felt like getting dressed wasn’t worth the effort. When I was pregnant with Lilah, I made a conscious effort to stay active and healthy and while I also mostly wore yoga pants, I invested in a good pair of maternity jeans to help me feel a little more stylish and put together.
Now that both of the girls are older, my yoga pant days are over. I really enjoy getting dressed every day, even if its just jeans and shirt, but I have learned that you need to add at least one more thing to feel and look good. Whether its a statement necklace, interesting purse, or a hat – there needs to be one more item to really tie everything together.
I’m really not a big jewelry person and I pretty much only carry a backpack (out of necessity to carry everything the girls and I need) so this hat is my “rule of three” item. It works on an everyday look like I wore this day, but I can also see myself wearing it this winter with a more polished look (like this or this). I definitely felt more put together this day than normal, which made me realize the “mom uniform” doesn’t have to be a bad thing!
What’s your go to “mom uniform? Do you have a favorite fall accessory?
